DEBORAH COFFY
League of Women Voters of Orange County, Florida (LWVOC)
As the former and first project coordinator for the League of Women Voters of Orange County, Florida, I was able to grow into my skill set as a project administrator for such an important organization in the community. LWVOC's mission is to provide a non-partisan lens on uplifting voter and civic engagement. It also supports progressive issues such as the right to choose, the right to clean water, public transportation, and more. With 15+ committees, an executive board, and a board of directors, I was able to help the League with its internal and external needs as necessary. Whether it was being on Spectrum News to explain changes to vote-by-mail or discussing with one of our co-presidents on Monica May's show the importance of voting in primaries to helping out with the behind-the-scenes work of event planning or tracking minutes, my experiences at the League continue to shape the importance of community and teamwork, and my appreciation for the chairs to dedicate so much to the League and its function.
In November 2023, I moved on from this position to my current research assistant position at UCF, which will help me gain many important research experiences as I apply to clinical and counseling psychology ph.d. programs.
I'm so grateful to the leadership of past presidents Barbara Lanning and Nicolette Springer for entrusting me in this position, as well as current President Tiffany Hughes. I will always have so much appreciation and love for this organization and its role as it seeks to encourage our community to be involved in our electoral and democratic process.
